The “Core Four” Game Reviews of Dixit
We lovingly call our family-quartet the Core Four. We believe a family that plays together, stays together — and is less prone to fist fights. Our game closet is overflowing and we’re here to share our favorite finds with you.
GAMER DAD — ★★★★★
I’m not sure I’ve ever won this Dixit, but I manage to enjoy it nonetheless. Young and old can get creative, enjoy a variety of artistic playing cards, and compete. If snacks were included, it would be the perfect game.
GAMER DAUGHTER 1 — ★★★★
Dixit is one of my many favorite games to play. I love being imaginative and, of course, winning.
GAMER DAUGHTER 2 — ★★★★
Dixit is a great game to play with a bigger group of people. You can also play with young kids on teams. I would totally recommend this to creative people.
RELUCTANT GAMER MOM — ★★★★★
Dixit is a short game rooted in creative thinking. The age range is 8 and up, but we’ve found this is a fun game to play with young kids if you team-up. It is easy to learn and never loses its luster.
The game is almost a visual-based version of the classic Apples To Apples, but don’t tell Gamer Dad I said that… he adores Dixit and despises the other. What I particularly love about this game is the insight it provides into my kids’ thoughts.
The best part of this game is you can always keep it fresh with expansion packs. We love adding new art into the experience. We’ve found this to be a great multi-generational game. In other words, it is great for kids to enjoy with younger siblings, but it is also fun to play with grandparents. I highly recommend it!

DORK DAD — ★★★★★
Every card in Dixit is a mini work of art. When you open the game, you’ll find yourself admiring their abstract beauty. I think most will agree, the game is gorgeous.
The active player draws a card and gives a short description of it. All other players pick a card from their hands matching that description. The cards are collected, shuffled, and placed face up. Everyone votes which card best matches the description. Points are given based on who wins the votes or guesses the correct card.
This is not a raucous-good-time type of a game, but your family will have fun. It’s super easy to learn, and the cards are, as I said, very pretty to look at. Over time, you’ll run out of descriptions for the cards. Luckily, there are lots of expansion packs available for purchase.

Dixit — A surprisingly remarkable game for kids (and adults!) that awakens the imagination
My son asked to play a board game that evening. Dixit had been pulled out and sitting on the kitchen counter for two weeks — I’m not even sure who did that. Last December I polled my thoughtful friends for excellent board games and added all of their suggestions to my wishlist without really looking at what they entailed. I received Dixit for Christmas, but we hadn’t played it yet. Carcassonne was such a big hit after the holidays that we stuck with that … Until a recent evening when we opened the Dixit box.
I unwrapped all the brand new cards, removing the shrink wrap. I unfolded the game board, creaking with newness. I punched out tiles and opened the bags of playing pieces — little wooden rabbits of all things! I read the instructions aloud, trying to make sense of what needed to happen while explaining it on a level that both the seven and nine-year-olds would understand. We looked at the examples in the instructions. All seemed okay. Then I peeked at the deck…
